10. Land of the Dead (2005)
To start our list from what is far from the best of George A. Romero, Land of the dead has some of the most ridiculous lines as well as zombie tendencies of any zombie movie – ever. Not to discredit the bombastic fun of the movie, it’s still a must-have for the Romero Zombie Movie Collection, but goes a little too far. 9. Little Monsters (2019)
A rare prospect in the zombie movie universe, Little monsters follows a group of children on field trips with their resilient school teacher who goes to incredible lengths to preserve their innocence. Since the camp they are going to is right next to a military test site, they are the first to be affected by the outbreak. While these zombies are pretty dumb (kids are able to escape them quite easily), the concepts and themes presented are quite endearing, encouraging the power of the human mind to endure no matter the odds.

8. Resident Evil (2002)
An all-out festival of action and the start of a film franchise that will continue for what seems like an eternity, resident Evil is a zombie movie that transforms humans and animals into all kinds of undead creatures. While it’s a fun and explosive adventure throughout, Milla Jovovich is the beacon that keeps these films alive with her incredible badassery. Yes, there are a lot of zombies in this movie series, but most of the time they completely change their shape / size / bone structure to more accurately follow the video game series they are based on.

7. The Land of Zombies (2009)
Adding total gore with comedy sometimes works well, this is one of those moments. In the land of zombies, not only do we get all the zombie action we’re looking for, but we also get a fun cast of characters that make the zombie apocalypse almost fun and survivable. Counting his list of rules for staying alive, Columbus (Jesse eisenberg) is a neurotic and logical example of someone using intelligence to stay alive, while Tallahassee (Woody harrelson) is a talented and horny zombie slayer who does it for sports.

5. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
The very first zom-rom-com to hit was the amazing Edgar Wright feature Shaun of the Dead, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to make dialogue and storytelling a dryly hilarious adventure. Inspired to save his girlfriend when the zombie apocalypse strikes (even though she just broke up with him), Shaun (Simon pegg) eventually just wants to go to her favorite pub and wait for everything to fall apart. While the zombies in this movie are painfully slow and dark, it adds to the humor of the movie, especially when they are able to navigate a crowd just by acting like a zombie.

4. Train to Busan (2016)
One of the most intense and claustrophobic zombie movies ever, Train to Busan is an amazing Korean zombie movie from director Sang-ho Yeon. Riddled with well-established stories for multiple characters and great performances to boot, they all must survive on a train to the last supposed safe zone in the zombie outbreak. Zombies are fast, they are vicious, and the virus transforms them quite quickly. The creativity and originality of the plot is enough to give it a watch, but it turns out so much better than it looks.

2. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Including some very interesting commentary on the company and what we have become, the zombies move slowly and are less threatening, but serve more as a symbolic tool for Romero. Hailed for its practical effects and gripping story, this is easily one of the best zombie movies of all time. It should be noted that due to licensing issues, this movie cannot be streamed online anywhere. So we’ll have to do it the old way.

1. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
In what is considered the first and best zombie movie of all time, George A. Romero directs this revered horror classic. Praised for its editing, practical effects and, of course, clever political commentary, Night of the Living Dead is Romero’s first film that was exceptional in so many ways. It has even been hailed for being the first horror film to feature a black main character played by Duane Jones, which adds to the incredible and groundbreaking steps – societal and theatrical – that Romero took long before many others.
