Island of the dead-one of AMC’s spinoffs from its long run The While walking dead series that wraps up its successful run later this year — signed Gaius Charles (Friday Night Lights) in the lead against fan favorites Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, according to a report on Deadline.
The six-episode series — slated to debut on AMC and AMC+ next year — follows Morgan’s Negan and Cohan’s Maggie as they journey through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan “long ago cut off from the mainland,” according to the synopsis. .
The decaying metropolis is “filled with the dead and the inhabitants who have made New York their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror”.
Charles will play a character named Perlie Armstrong, described as “confident, ruthless and unyielding in pursuit of what he believes to be justice…a family man dedicated to building a safe world for his wife and Her daughters”.
Island of the dead is led by showrunner Eli Jorne, writer and executive producer on TWD–and executive producers Scott M. Gimple, Cohan and Morgan.
AMC Entertainment President Dan McDermott said this new show “will allow us to explore a corner of TWD universe on Manhattan Island, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.
The While walking dead the flagship series – based on the comics by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard – will conclude its 11th and final season later this year.
