Dead day # 1, a new comic book announced today by AfterShock, features a different kind of zombie story, in which the dead return one day every year, using their time to visit loved ones, party or even take revenge on those who have harmed them in life.
The first issue of the new book is due out on April 15 from the writer Ryan parrot, artist Evgeniy Bornyakov, colourist Juancho Vélez, and letterer Charles pritchett. It will also feature blankets of Andy clarke with colors by Jose villarrubia, as well as a variant of Francesco Francavilla.
it sounds a bit like The walking dead meets coco, and there is certainly a Walking Dead-Size hole in the world of monthly comics to be filled with zombie storytelling. In the promotional materials that accompanied AfterShock Comics announcement, writer Parrott noted that he was inspired by societal changes described as a result of massive global events of a similar magnitude to this by other media such as Leftovers and The purge.

If the dead could come back for just one night, would we want them to?
Meet the Haskins, a seemingly normal suburban family, as they prepare for the annual gruesome party known as “Dead Day” – when the deceased emerges from the tomb from sunset to sunrise. Some return to find family and friends, others for a last night of debauchery, still others with only one thing in mind: revenge.
From writer Ryan Parrott (OBERON, VOLITION, Power Rangers) and artist Evgeniy Bornyakov (DESCENDANT, YOU ARE OBSOLETE) tells a disturbing story of existential horror with grave consequences.
